As you well know, time is not always linear. Sometimes time relates to occurrences as they transpire and not necessarily to a date.
5 Simple Ways Tarot Determines Time
1 Time as an occurrence.
Thereby the cards will then divine as a measuring tool relating to occurrences and not time zones. The nine of swords reply to “When will I get my promotion?” can then be “When you stop mentally exhausting yourself. Channel your thoughts in achieving your goal, not stressing about the promotion.”
You can then see how the Tarot enables us to take responsibility for our situations. Tarot grants you an opportunity to identify where you can make positive life-changing decisions.
2 Time in Suits and Elements
Wands relate to the element of Fire. You can then see fire relates to the Sun, hence the Wands relate to Days or Summer.
Cups relate to the element of Water. Water relates to the Moon. The moon has a lunar cycle, and thereby cups relate to months. Cups depict the time when the Sun’s reign is shortening, giving way to the Moon and thereby relate to Autumn.
Swords relate to the element of Air and therefore to Knights (Princes in Thoth). Knights rule from Chesed to Yesod. Swords, therefore, rule weeks and Spring.
Pentacles relate to the element of Earth. Here one can see that earth could not survive without the other three elements. Pentacles are thus annual markers in time depicting Years and Winter.
Use the above descriptions in your reading by combining the number of the card to the suit. Thereby if you were to draw the Three of Wands to a question of “When will he call?” then we can see how you could well expect a call in three days. 🙂 A broader question could, however, mean, “In summer.”
3 Time in Reversals
As far as timing goes, you can interpret reversal cards as your querent not being ready for the outcome. Often they could well mean that the event may not postpone. Intuition does play a huge role here, so keep a watchful eye on how you read the card.

Wands to Aries, Leo and Sagittarius
Cups to Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces
Swords referring to Gemini, Libra and Aquarius.
Pentacles to Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn
