“Until you make the unconscious, conscious, it will rule your life and you will call it Fate” Carl Gustav Jung, Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst who founded analytical psychology.
There is so much of today’s “Secret” literature regarding manifestation in circulation, yet I find that many of my querents feel completely hopeless. Daily I experience men and women alike who are over the laws of attraction and feel compelled to give up. They feel lost as to why they still attract the same awful relationships, the same debts and the same ol’ crappy lifestyles. I find that delving into my querents’ Shadow Side helps them to see a fuller picture.
The Shadow Side, XV, of Witches Tarot by Ellen Dugan indicates “what happens when we allow fear and panic to take over. The card illustrates a couple cringing away from a shadowy and frightening figure. They are alone in a sinister forest. Clearly, their fear is ruling them…”
Previously, I have written about working with shadow cards and how the Tarot helps to identify your Shadow Side. Today, let us take a look at why it is essential to identify our Shadow Side, or as CG Jung called it, our unconscious.
1. Know thyself
We get so wrapped up in the social expectations of who we are meant to be and what we are meant to achieve in today’s day and age that very few of us truly take the time to know ourselves. The Laws of Attraction tell us to affirm great things and chant our divine relationship, our dream car etc, but our unconscious mind, our shadow side is sitting in the background going, “Yeah, right! But…?” This voice then links all the what-ifs and buts and every inconceivable fear together to become something rather larger than life. Sadly, sooner than later, our affirming chanter manifests their greatest dreads and feels like giving up.
Here’s the thing, your shadow side is part of you. You have fears, you have desires and you have emotions. Now, the harder you try as you may deny these or reject them, they grow stronger. Rather then, imagine if you could for a moment, channeling this energy. Imagine having the ability, and you do, to convert these taboos into heartfelt intention. Courage is a good word here that has somehow lost its true meaning.
The Ancient Greek aphorism “know thyself”, is one of the Delphic maxims and was inscribed in the pronaos of the Temple of Apollo at Delphi according to the Greek writer Pausanias. Wikipedia.
Having courage is to have heartfelt intention. As courage derives from the French word cœur, and as you may well know, cœur means heart, depth, substance, back, consciousness, awareness and spirit. So to live with heartfelt intention is that core spiritual courage to face ourselves, the dark and the light and use our full spirit to drive ourselves towards a future in total fearless love of our true self.
“The Way gave birth to unity,
Unity gave birth to duality,
Duality gave birth to trinity,
Trinity gave birth to the myriad creatures.”
2. Break the Cycle
By identifying our shadow side and channel our shadow side, we can reflect and learn from our past. You know that friend of yours, the one who gets her heart-broken, only to find the next guy? Somehow this guy repeats that same disastrous behavior? And then you look closer at her relationship with her father and see the same pattern there? Implementing shadow work into your behavioral patterns empowers you to break these cycles! To look at your life, identify the shadow and channel it.
But there are two parts to this! The great part is that you can actually identify that you have, albeit subconsciously, manifested what you wanted. By noting that you have attracted the same men, the same pattern, you can now also note that you, yourself who wants to give up because you can’t manifest what you want, can manifest! This is a life-skill! This is something that you can truly go out and celebrate!
3. Clarity is Transformation
By having confidence in celebrating your “Shadow”, your intimate desires, wishes, longings, instead of constant denial, you enable yourself to better define the nature of your true longing. By reason then, you are approving of your deepest core, and are able to channel that energy into conscious awareness, stripping it of all power. This resonates with that old cliché of “you have nothing to fear, but fear itself”.
4. No More “the Victim”.
The gains of working with your “Shadow” is immense because the more you become a whole of yourself, without the fear, you can realize just how empowered you are and this alone gives you an increased sense of serenity. Sure, people will find you far more attractive, and may even flock to you with their stories of how bad their break up is or how badly they have become a victim of their circumstances. But you will rise above the “let’s compare notes of who has it worse!” topic of the day.
5. Increases Self-Worth.
Working with your Shadow increases your ability to see that you are the highest creation and thereby a co-creator of your reality. But with this, comes the exciting part, others do too! As you realize your true destination, your goal, and you begin to aim high, like-minded persons will appear in your life to assist you. The difference is, now that you consider yourself worthy, you are able to receive and when you are ready, pay that forward too. How great to live with no restrictions!
