Review of Gilded Reverie Lenormand Expanded Edition

Ciro Marchetti’s Gilded Reverie Lenormand Expanded Edition

"<yoastmark

Ciro Marchetti gave me his blessing to review the Gilded Reverie Lenormand Expanded Edition. Actually, it was with great glee that I asked his blessing having received my deck in the mail. However, it is now months later and I still find myself stumped at how to verbalize what these cards mean to me. So bear with me if I appear to stumble over my words. My stumbles are a mere indication of how empowering this deck is.

Gilded Reverie Lenormand Expanded Edition

As the name suggests, the Gilded Reverie Lenormand Expanded Edition is a 47-card deck, as it has 8 newcomers to the deck plus an extra man, woman, and bird card. This deck showcases the captivating talents of digital artist Ciro Marchetti. The cards are 2.75″ x 4″ (7cm x 10.16cm), which are slightly larger than my other Lenormand decks. The card stock is somewhat thicker than most decks I have used, but somehow, they don’t feel stiff or heavy. When piled together, they measure up to 0.79″ or 2cm.

Also, as per the name, this is a gilded deck. Bearing in mind that I use these cards as my work-horse, they are in daily use and now the gild on my deck is no longer visible. They were most attractive when I purchased them!

This is largely a reversible deck with intrinsic gold patterns over a black and red checkered back. The one exception to the reverse is the tiny (c)2017 US GAMES printed on the bottom right corner. Due to the gold print on the black, it is hardly noticeable.

Packaging

The packaging of these cards reflects the quality of the cards. It is definitely one of the better boxes I have yet had. The box is a sturdy cardboard, with a magnetized folding book-like cover. The LWB and cards have a snug fit. I do, however, place the book above the cards each time I pack them away that the cards don’t slide.

What is in the Little White Book?

The Little White Book is really not so little. Ciro Marchetti spared no efforts in compiling a concise informative 80-page book. Tali Goodwin, tarot researcher and co-director of the Tarosophy Tarot Association is the writer of the forward. Ciro Marchetti writes his own introduction to the Gilded Reverie Lenormand Expanded Edition. Lee Bursten writes an in-depth 5-page “Choosing and working with Lenormand Decks.”

The Cards

Each card has a chapter dedicated to it. Each chapter begins with a first-person poem written from the card to you. The poems somehow give wonderful key-words of the card’s meaning. Ciro Marchetti then adds a detailed thought-provoking description of each card.

“How to use the extra cards”, by Lee Bursten.

This 4-page illustrated section of the book focuses on the new eight cards added to the deck:
37 Time, 38 Bridges, 39 Dice, 40 Mask, 41 Well, 42 Compass, 43 Labyrinth, 44 Magnifying Glass.

“Sample Reading with Clarifying Cards”, by Donnaleigh de LaRose.

I relate to Donnaleigh and the simplicity of her reading style. So this section, to me, is priceless. If this is your first deck, I would suggest starting here in the LWB.

Card Spreads

The last section of the LWB gives you various spreads with sample readings. Tali Goodwin shares “The Simple Nine-Card Spread” and “The Fortune-Telling Day Spread”. Rana George shares her spread that grants a quick overview with regards to certain areas of one’s life in “The Chocolate Bar Spread”.

This is how I use the  Gilded Reverie Lenormand Expanded Edition on a Grand Tableau board.

I have made myself a board that is 9 x 5. I lay out the cards 1 – 36 as per the usual 8 x 4 + 4, but then fill in the missing cards from left bottom, right bottom and then complete 41 to 44 down the right side – the bottom right space is then the ‘conclusion’ of the board. Thereby we adding foundations to the fourth row and adding definition to the eighth column.
